Tucked onto a hillside on the edge of Kandy, Elephant Stables is a lovingly restored colonial home. Adigar Sir Cuda Ratwatte, a Ceylonese nobleman and one of few Sri Lankan’s to receive a British knighthood, originally owned it. It’s been passed through many hands since and its glorious history is evident everywhere you look. There are just 6 rooms and suites in total; these blend colonial planter’s style furniture with chic contemporary design seamlessly. The Suites are generally a little larger that the rooms and these are located in original building. The rooms (with the exception of Saffron) are located in the new wing. The food here is a real highlight with Sri Lanka and Western specialities served in a number of locations across the property. You’ll also find a lovely cool pool, a fantastic selection of classic cars and the option of spending a day with their resident elephant Menika.
