Situated in the heart of Galle’s historic fort, Deco on Forty Four boasts both character and a fantastic location. It was originally built in the 1930s by a wealthy Gem merchant and has now been turned into an intimate 7-room boutique hotel. It still retains its Art Deco character with a wonderful carved wooden staircase, high ceilings and vintage posters. At the heart of the property is a crisp good size pool surrounded by the Deluxe Rooms. These are a good size, with polished concrete floors, decorative beds and rain showers. The Suites are much larger with high ceilings; some have balconies overlooking the street. Dotted across the property are small nooks and lounge areas and there’s also a small restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. This isn’t a luxury property but it does offer comfort, genuine and helpful staff and a wonderful location at a reasonable price.
